Walk Hard

Just had to add this picture because I love the movie!!!

Edmontonian in the making...

My mom and I when she came out to visit me...miss her again...:(

Well, it has been a really long time since I have posted anything on my blog here so thought I would update in case anyone actually looks...lol. I'm in Edmonton now, got sick of Fort McMurray. Although the money was good up there, the rent is high and I just didnt like being stuck in the middle of nowhere.
Edmonton is nice, and now that I am finding my way around a bit better I am starting to like it. I think the summertime will be good with all the festivals and stuff, and I am only 3 hours from Calgary so I can always go for a road trip on days off to see my friends and family there! Not to mention I have an awesome boyfriend here and we are having so much fun checking out all of the ethnic restaurants in town....something you never get in Fort Mac...
The airport is alot different to work at here, alot bigger and more people, but I like that part because I dont find it as gossippy as smaller airports. The downside to that is that we dont have the "small family" kindof atmosphere as we had in Comox and Fort Mac. I am liking it and meeting lots of new people nevertheless.
I really really miss Vancouver Island, especially the ocean, and my mom. Hopefully I will be able to go out there this summer for a holiday. Thats all that is new right now...except also my hair is different. But those of you who know me know that I change it lots! Feel free to write me!

Back in Fort McMurray

Well it is winter once again and -40 seems like -100, but you still have to drag your sorry butt to work in the morning. How I wish I still lived in BC, where it snows a foot and the whole town shuts down, people dont leave their houses, but sit inside by the fire and bake cookies (or make moonshine), and only venture out to go snowboarding, skiing, or toboganning. But, Fort Mac is where the money is! And up here in the great white north, instead of people locking themselves in their houses, they just break out the hummer instead of the $50,000 harley, or whatever sports car they drive in the summer time that is worth about as much as other people in the world pay for their houses.

Up here in the Mac, to rent a one bedroom apartment costs around $1500 a month. And all that means is that you have your "own place" and not living in someone elses for $1000 just for a room. The apartments up here are the equivalent to the "crack-shacks" you see in Calgary or Edmonton, but when you live in your own apartment people think you are rich. I have to mention as well that even to pay that much is insane since like myself, most people up here work around 80 hours a week, going to work at 5am and getting home at 8pm, you are treating your home like a hotel anyway.

My dad told me that Fort McMurray is like Deadwood back in the days of the goldrush. All the workers come here to make the money, the hard workers that is. But you also get all the con-artists, gamblers, drug pushers, etc. They come up here because they know that people have money and "cabin fever" so they can make their money the easy way, while others work their asses off. And I know that he is right. The one casino in town is constantly packed with people (mostly the wives) spending all of their (husbands) hard earned money, all of the bars in town have a line up if you go past 10 pm, especially the Newfie Club. And there is so many drugs up here it is disgusting.

Apparently crack only stays in your system for a few days, unlike marajuana which stays for a month or so. So while everyone on site gets random drug tests, they are hooked on crack, not marajuana. Crazy, since if you go on holidays for 3 weeks, and while you are vacationing in Jamaica, say, you smoke some good ol' homegrown ganja and go back to work after the 3 weeks and get drug tested you lose your job, while all the crack-heads are still working. Go Figure.

Two doors down from my house in Fort McMurray an eighteen year old kid was shot and killed. It was a well known crack house. I could sit on my front step and in the time it took me to have a cigarette, see 3 cars pull up, go inside, come out and leave. Now I might add that these people going to this place are not young kids. The ones that I saw are like 55 yr. old men that just came from working on site. The morning the kid got shot there, the news and papers says "Well known crack house". Well then, if it was so well known (which it was because cabs wont even come to our house 2 houses down) then why didnt the cops shut it down???

Anyway, life in Fort McMurray is simple...go to work, go home, shower, make lunch, go to bed, go to work, go home, shower, make lunch.....

ASHTON

I am naming my first born son after this man. Ashton, you are my favourite person ever.

Tanti

One of many amazing beautiful women in Dominica. Tanti made me feel so welcome and made sure that I had everything I needed.

Kids Dancing Reggae

Desmond's Bar...Favourite Hang Out

Gangsta

I love this picture....

Downtown Wesley, Dominica...where my man grew up. The streets are single lane, and it is like driving in England. You know, on the left side of the road, ride side of the vehicle. I had to drive there the first day and found it super hard to shift with my left hand!! Check out the deep gutters on the side of the road too, I kept thinking my tire was going to go in there...the big hole.

Marigot

Me and Avi

Me and my baby...we had just left a wedding and he changed by he wouldnt let me change out of my "sexy" dress...so I at least changed from heals to flip flops. The blue van is actually a mini bus that his friend Roscum converted. It is so cool with the little bench seats. I think its like $2.00 to go anywhere.

Frog

Look, its a froggy...in the washroom.
I love Niesha!!! This girl rocks the Caribbean!! It is so nice to travel so far away and meet such good friends. Especially good girl friends!

Beach

BEAUTIFUL Dominica!!!! This picture doesn't even do it justice...

Lizard

I loved the lizards. Everytime I saw one I would follow it and try to take its picture everytime it changed colours. Avi was trying to catch them to throw them at me....

Dominica Sulfur Springs

This is the Sulfur Pool...where it is said that you swim in the natural sulfur water and it rids your body of all scars and heals your body naturally. The water was so warm, like a hot springs, and it looked orange and smelt like matches, but I will go back there and bathe every time I go to Dominica.

My Intro....

Ok, so, I am BECCI! I live in Fort McMurray, Alberta. It sucks here, so I need to travel alot to get away from the working 65-85 hours a week and since so many of you wanted to see my pics, I thought I would just start a blog and make it all a bit easier for all of us!!! Enjoy!
